Joel Klebanoff: Stuff & Nonsense

Do-It-Yourself Solar System

Holy crap!

I just received an email with the following subject line: “Do-It-Yourself Solar System for Everyday Homeowners!”

And here is the body of the email (minus links and a lot of hidden, white-on-white text):

I can understand how having your own personal sun could cut down on your energy bills, but, like I said, holy crap! I’m an atheist, but I think it takes physical forces and a mass much greater than any human can muster to create a solar system.

Besides, where would you put it if you did build it? Who has a backyard that big? I live in a condo with a patio that isn’t big enough for the smallest of asteroids, let alone a star or two and a bunch of planets.

I think I’ll have to give this offer a pass.

  1. It seems silly to built your own when there’s one already here. Just claim it as your own. Who can stop you?

Want sunlight for power – it’s up there. No one’s likely to stop that either, unless you live in the sewer.
